Biography

Although I was not born in Texas, I spent a great deal of my time growing up there and consider Dallas my home. I have also lived in Lubbock and Austin, Texas. I attended Texas Tech University where I studied English Literature, Spanish and Education. I continued my graduate education at Texas Tech as well, and completed an M.A. degree in Technical Communication.

I taught composition courses at TTU and have worked professionally as a proposal writer. My interests have always been in the field of writing and education, and thus, my reason for attending the University of California, Santa Barbara. The Gevirtz Graduate School of Education provides an interesting blend of courses in my field of interest, and allows close work with the UCSB Writing Program.

Currently, I am teaching technical communication to engineering students here at UCSB. I also teach writing to photography students at Brooks Institute of Photography.

My general research interests are in writing studies, rhetoric, and technical communication. More specifically, I'm interested in the way technology (namely augmented reality systems) impacts literacy practices, not only in educational settings, but in the workplace, and in common societal practices such as in political campaigns, tourism, and entertainment.
